HOW IT WORKS...
BRAKES...Brakes do one of the most important jobs in the car...bringing thousands of pounds of car, people and cargo to a safe stop. Saturn uses two types of brakes: "Disc" and "Drum". When you press the brake pedal, the master cylinder forces the fluid, under pressure, to the wheels...Disc brakes work much as bicycle caliper brake, as the fluid pressure pushes the pads to squeeze the rotor. The drum is an inside out action as the shoes are forced outward into the drums. Related Components - master cylinder, disc calipers, rotors, pads, brake drums, shoes, wheel cylinders. PROBLEM/SOLUTION
THE PROBLEM: You hear a squeal from under the hood, especially when cold or after vehicle has been sitting. It usually goes away in a few minutes. THE SOLUTION: The most likely cause is either the belt tensioner or the main drive belt or a combination of the two. The fix for either of these...is replacement.
